Suicide attempts by self-poisoning increasing among US youths

Researchers found that the rate of suicide attempts by self-poisoning among US children, teens and young adults ages 10 to 18 more than doubled between 2011 and 2018, with a more than threefold increase found among girls and young women ages 10 to 24 during the same period. The findings in The Journal of Pediatrics also showed that 71% of intentional poisoning cases reported to poison control centers from 2000 to 2018 involved girls and young women.
